Tap Parade

Metronome, tap tempo & instrument tuner

About

About Tap Parade

Tap Parade is a small set of free tools for musicians: a metronome, a tap tempo counter, a chromatic tuner, a BPM to milliseconds calculator and a drum machine.

How it works

Everything runs in your web browser. The clicks, drums and reference tones are synthesized on the spot with the Web Audio API, so there are no sound files to download and nothing to install. The metronome and drum machine schedule each sound on the audio clock a fraction of a second ahead, which is what keeps them steady.

The tuner listens through your microphone only after you press Start and your browser asks for permission. It measures the pitch of short slices of sound inside the page and throws each slice away; no audio is recorded, stored or sent anywhere.

Your settings, such as the metronome tempo or your drum pattern, are kept in your browser's local storage so they are still there next time. They stay on your device.

What it is not

Tap Parade is not a company and has no accounts, subscriptions or paid tiers. The site counts page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies; see the privacy page for the details.

The tempo words, tunings and reverb suggestions on these pages are common conventions and rules of thumb, explained where they appear. When a page relies on a published standard or method, such as the A4 = 440 Hz tuning standard, it names its source.
